x x A V E R Y which as they kiss, consume First impressions weren't Avery's forté, though if you looked past her initial dorkiness and managed not to go absolutely crazy as you did so, you'd at least realize one thing. She was truly not nearly as stupid as she came off - in fact, the girl lounging in the hammock of two towering trees on the university grounds was impressive in her intelligence. Her pale features were hidden inside a copy of Romeo and Juliet that looked as though it'd been mauled by a dog one too many times, raven locks creating a fan behind her as she yawned. The time to simply dawdle about was a rare privilege, her schedule lately not permitting any sort of rest outside of the few hours of sleep she spared every night out of her precious working time. Eyes beginning to sting from staring at the small print for far too long, her hand set the book by her side, allowing her face to fall to the side with a disappointed sigh. Her unkempt hair followed the movement, descending over her cheeks. She didn't bother to brush it away, closing her eyes as tight as she could and just pondering, imagining, dreaming. It had seemed like years since she'd had contact with her family and friends, particularly Tanner, who she was missing immensely. Not having any sight of him for so long was taking it's toll on her, causing her to lose even more sleep than she was required to. Of course, she'd easily settle for contact with Valera or Ashlyn, her two amazing best friends, or even Aiden, her snot of a brother. Anyone she could speak to without feeling as though her words were being endlessly criticised, or having to prepare herself for being told her response was incorrect. She couldn't take this much longer, which was why she'd had far too high hopes while venturing out of her dorm today and instead resting on the university grounds. True, she had so many assignments due next week it was terrifying, but she could put that off for just a while. Just for the chance to talk to somebody. That was all she asked.

To his surprise, the day was actually normal. Being saturday, he had absolutely NOTHING to do. Earlier that morning he'd been to the hospital to take his stitches out. Now all that was left was a light tint of scar tissue embedded in his face. Dr. Ivy had given him some scar reliever to slowly penitrate the scar's nasty appearance. He walked along the grass, glancing around at young adults studying and typing away at their laptops leaned up against large oak trees or lounging in the grass. He even saw some catching up on books or their ipods. Tanner glanced at his phone. Still no word from Avery. He'd tried at least 300 times to call her or IM her. Really, she wasn't that easy to get ahold of. The clear air still had a tinge of chill to it so he shoved his hands in his multicolored DC hoodie. The clouds were spread apart, giving the sun room to breathe and shine onto the earth, giving the winter end a nice warmth to it. He could already feel spring and it was only March. Suddenly, he felt some sort of lonely shadow cast over him. He missed Avery deeply; he wanted her to see his clean, stitch free face. Tanner looked his best today, hoping...just hoping that he might be able to catch a glimpse of his amazing girlfriend. He'd recently dyed his hair a pitch black with a few green tips and his shark blue eyes stuck out immensely from behind his ebony locks. His skin was clear with the exception of the faint scars. He wore his best tight skinny jeans and black and white vans. To go along with this adorable look, he added his tight Job For a Cowboy shirt hidden beneath his DC hoodie. Thanks to Avery, Tanner spent a little more time in front of a mirror that any boy should.

She just might as well give it up, though she was pathetically willing to keep holding on to her hopes. There wasn't going to be a sight of him - or anyone, for that matter, that she even gave a damn about - on this day. The day that she'd actually started out on a good mood with, which had easily stooped down to the point of depression as it'd drug on for far too long. An angry growl was released under her breath as she flicked the book onto the ground, which she'd done quite a bit in the past whenever she attracted another reason to herself to get ticked off. That was the true reason for the book's shabby appearance, shoving it around and abandoning it at who knows how many places. Falling out of the hammock, the only other lifeform was - a squirrel. "Stupid squirrel," she yelled at it, a snicker escaping her as it stared at her, chirping noisily as it tried to get Avery to leave him alone. Of course, if she hadn't found some sort of distraction from her boredom, she'd go completely insane and that just wouldn't work out too well for anybody. So she kept standing there, mumbling a sarcastic comment to it before she finally decided to leave it behind.
She wasn't looking that bad on that Saturday either, though signs of absolutely no sleep were showing under her eyes, face drooped into an unsatisifed frown. Unsatisified with life, basically, because she was cussing out who ever the hell watched over them daily now for dragging her into this black pit. Really, couldn't she find just one second with someone she liked? It wasn't that hard. Her clear eyes glanced towards the main school building, and she pretty much saw heaven. He was there. Really there. Walking. "TANNER!" she screamed at the top of her lungs, enough to piss off Mr. Squirrel again who was still chattering away as he kept perched safely on his branch. She was galloping across the lawn as fast as she could in her scuffed converse, screaming the boy's name with every bound.

As he walked, his kicked at the grass. Yes, Tanner, the grass really does take offense to your boredom. He stared at the ground for a few moments; basically doing everything that an old guy would do for fun. Suddenly, his attention turned to the high pitched bellowing of his name, creased with fast falling footsteps. A smile creased his lips as he recognized this familiar voice. Avery. It was actually her!! He turned to the direction to where the beckoning was coming from. It didn't take long before she crashed right into his body. He made no effort to move, nor did he want to. That mild smile turned into a grin as he wrapped his long arms around her small frame. Hey babyyyy!! He exclaimed with an excited tinge to his voice. Tanner pulled his face towards his with a gentle lift of his finger and placed his lips to match her's. His heart seemed to burst as the electricity formed between their kiss. He didn't make an effort to move his mouth away from her's. He couldn't believe the feeling he was feeling right now.

She mulled over that kiss for literally a minute, at the least, which was why it was fairly difficult to breathe as she pulled back. Who even cared about that, she was in the arms of the person she lived for, just a little breathless at the same time. "Tanner," she squeaked again, her smile incredibly bright, though absolutely nothing could measure up to the excruciatingly bright light to his eyes today. "You look quite attractive today. Who you showing off for?" she pouted, shifting ceaselessly on her feet, shifting her weight back and forth in uncontrollable excitement. There was no way to explain how thankful she was that nobody else was there, since she wouldn't have felt the right to be quite as loving as she was. She was so enveloped in him, everything else seemed to have disappeared, her attention only on him. "Oh my gosh," she gasped, demanding another kiss the second after her dramatic words.

Who do you think? He said with a cute smirk. He couldn't belive that just by chance he decided to take a walk around campus today and met up with the girl he lived for. Never once did he seize from touching her at least some way, whether it was her hand or whole body. He kissed her again, this time with a little more passion in it. He smiled against her lips, then to his disappointment, he had to pull away to talk her to her. I tried to call you like 20 times! Where were you? He said with the grin never leaving his face. So, the day was beginning to become brilliant and perfect, thanks to this girl. Tanner couldn't think of anyone he'd rather spend his day with than Avery Johns.

Her face contorted into an embarrassed smile, pulling back for a moment as she shook her head to rid herself of the few strands of hair that refused to leave her face, other than the ones that were meant to be there. "I. Lost it," she sighed, eyes shifting to stare behind him before they quickly returned to his face, not wanting any other view but that. Who would, after all? Pfft, she could think of one, that Alex girl he'd been talking to in the university stable. She wasn't ever going to admit she'd been jealous of her at that time. After all, she'd been speaking to him for how long, and Avery got to say hi and he'd had to go. That was just unfair. "Sorry," she muttered, feeling horrible about the fact she was too unorganized to remember where her phone was and where she'd set it last. She could've at least spoken to him, heard his voice. That would've helped her, but of course, she couldn't even manage that.

When he saw her embarrassed appearance, he chuckled and embraced her in a playful hug. It's ok, baby! I was just kidding. But, I'd really like to know if you're ok...I was worried. He said with a crooked smile. He pressed his lips to her forehead. All he ever did was worry about her when they weren't together. It wasn't that he thought that she couldn't handle herself...It was the fact that HE was her boyfriend and he definately had to look out for her. She was always the center of his mind, the center of all thinking for Tanner. Everything he did either reminded him of Avery or he'd think "I wonder what she'd think of this?". Due to their relationship, Tanner hadn't used painkillers or any other type of drug for recreational use. He knew that she didn't approve of it, therefore it was extremely easy to stop.
Tanner smiled at her again. He couldn't take his eyes away from her beautiful face. Now, to this day, Tanner couldn't EVER see himself with anyone else.

Her smile was still faint, still feeling as though she was a complete idiot for cutting off all means of communication with him, when she'd had the option of at least one, if she wasn't too unorganized to lose it. "Who cares if I'm alright," she sniffed, shivering as she stood before him. Wisely, she'd worn a tight short sleeve today, so she was about ready to freeze to death out here. She just hadn't taken much notice of that, or anything really, the entire time she was out here. She'd been in a daze, as she always was when she didn't have him there to set her thoughts straight and gain her dedicated attention. "Walk. Let's walk," she requested, her small fingers fastening around his own as she drug him forward a few steps, though not forcefully. If he didn't feel up to it, she wouldn't make him. She was just too happy at even seeing him to really want to do much else.

Tanner looked at her for a moment. Who cares if she's alright? Well, he sure fucking did. He felt the need to roll his eyes, but held back, knowing that that would just piss her off. Tanner just smiled and went along with whatever she had to offer. He curled his larger fingers around her's, walking forward. Alright. He said softly. He looked around the campus; spring was beginning to appear all over the place. And he was definately ready for it. He would take Avery swimming during summer, along with horseback rides and many other activities that were swirling around in his head at the moment. He brushed away those thoughts so he could concetrate on the present. Tanner glanced at her. She was amazing. Everything about her couldn't be described in words. You been busy this week? I sure have. I have like 20 reports due by next week. He said with a chuckle.

She hadn't taken but a few steps before she stopped, teeth literally chattering as she pulled up beside him. "I..I'm t...too cold," she hissed, eyebrows furrowing as she glanced at him out of the corner of her eyes. Another one of her little problems that always popped up at the worst moments - she was probably the one single person on the earth that got cold the second she even stepped outside on a day that wasn't at least 70 degrees. It was ridiculous, but she couldn't help it, her tiny frame not exactly supporting her that well in these conditions. She pulled herself against his side, her body fitting nicely against his own as she clung to him. "S..s..sorry," she stammered, shutting her eyes for a moment. If only she could stop being an icecube, this would be perfect.

As she spoke of her chilliness, without a though he pulled off his hoodie and held it behind her, waiting for her to slide her arms into the sleeves. He smiled. This was the first time he'd gotten to do this for her. And quite frankly, he was proud of his actions. Can't have that, Baby. He said sweetly, kissing her smooth cheek. He couldn't STAND for her to be uncomfortable. That was the worst feeling.

"I've never gotten to wear my boyfriend's letter jacket before!" she exclaimed, her voice enthusiastic - and slightly cheesy, at the mention of that - as she slipped her arms into the sleeves and attacked him in a hug. "Now you'll be cold. We'll have to keep taking it on and off," she laughed, resting her face against his shoulder, which was about as high as she stood next to him, just barely. Hah, way better than a letter jacket. That was just crap, this was real. And she'd much rather wear his hoodie instead of one of those. "Where to walk?" she inquired, her voice sweet as she glanced at him, trying to be the perfect girlfriend. The thought of that delighted her, though she wouldn't mention that. She'd just speak it through her actions. Good enough.

He laughed at her exclamation of 'letterman jacket' Wow, he would never be caught dead in one of those. Tanner just wasn't the type to play sports. Avery, just because you're made of ice, doesn't mean everyone else is. He joked, chuckling. He was expected to get smacked for that. That's just how girls were. He'd learned that from past expiriences. He hugged her back and thought of where they could go. Anywhere. It's nice today. He said, smiling sweetly. Tanner gently put his arm around her small waist, feeling a burst of pride run through his veins. He couldn't have been more happier.

Her lips hung open for a good while before she burst into a dramatic pout, pulling out of his hold as she felt his arm constrict around her waist. "That was rude," she grumbled, a flimsy, half-hearted kick tossed in the direction of his left shin before she continued to lazily slump along beside him, though not touching him in any manner anymore. She couldn't be any happier right now, really, her anger completely feigned and her act wearing off by the second. He'd probably seen through it's superficial cover by now, as he wasn't stupid by any means, and he knew her well enough. "So insulted," she breathed, reaching out to poke him on the temple with a finger. "I can't believe I even like you," what a horrid understatement. She lived for him, breathed for him.

Tanner smiled as she pretended to act angry with him. Oh please, she knew that his statement was perfectly true. This smile turned into a grin as she poked him. Brrr... He teased, rubbing his shoulders with the opposite hands. Frosty the snoman, had a very cold snow thing!! Tanner began to sing lightly, forgetting most of the words and making up his own. Just like AVERYY!! He said off tune. Maybe he shouldn't tease her like this...but it sure was amusing at times. He hoped that he knew how much she meant to him. She was the light of his life and his jokes were completely fake and he meant nothing by them but only humor to brighten things up.

Two could play at that game. A scowl was cast in his direction, the leer still upon her features as she burst into song herself, or more screaming to overpower his own vocals. "TANNER IS A DORK, WITH A BIG UGLY NOSE. HE WENT OUTSIDE, AND THEN HE DIED, AND NOW HE'S DEAD AND NOW TANNER SHOULD DEFINITELY SHUT UP, THE END," she declared, flinging her arms about her small frame crazily as if to cut off both of their voices - or any noise, for that matter. She was snickering, trying not to laugh and instead attempting to keep on her 'I don't like you' face, though she was doing terribly at it. It was just impossible, especially if she looked at him. The words, technically, should be something much different than 'a dork with a big ugly nose'. More like, 'the sweetest, most attractive kid ever'. But she wasn't going to admit that. She was to the point of true laughter now, unable to help it, especially once she'd played back his lyrics in her mind. She could make a few sick jokes about the frosty snow thing, but she would refrain herself, unless he just urged her on more.
[ you have no idea how many jokes I could make about a frosty snow thing, seriously. ]

[perv. lol. jk]
Tanner exxagerated a joking gasp as she insulted him. Well, then. If I'm dead, then you'll never see me again! He said, grinning evily. He fell to the ground and faked a cough and choke. It was strange to him that he could be himself around Avery. He could say anything and DO anything. It seemed to him like she was the same way. No girl had ever been this comfortable around Tanner. Never. He knew from then on that they would make a pretty amazing pair. A strange and interesting pair to put it that way. He layed lifelessly on the ground, waiting for her to give and and come to his 'much-needed' rescue and hopefully some mouth to mouth recessitation. Ha. Tanner you idiot.

[SORRY, but really.]
Her piercing scream of terror probably put a jolt through everyone on campus, exclaiming a dramatic, drawn out "NOOOOO!" as he crumpled to the ground. "Why must the dorks die young?!" she gasped through feigned sobs, falling beside him and poking him all along his torso, mainly around his ribcage. Though his eyes were closed, the clever smirk upon her features was probably bold enough for the trees to see it. "Well, I guess this means I can do anything I want with old Tanner boy here," she declared, sitting upon his stomach with a short sigh. "So sad, truthfully so sad..." she continued to blabber before she leaned forward, her lips just tracing the corner of his own and resting there, analyzing his 'lifeless' look with a skeptic eyebrow raised. He was such a goof. She finally pressed her lips to his vigorously, not bothering to prop herself up for the kiss.

As she placed her lips to connect with his, he quickly opened his eyes then closed them a few moments later. Tanner kissed back, putting his hands on her waist, smiling against her lips. He stopped kissing her and sat up, never making a move to move her from his lap. They were getting strange looks from passer bys but what did he care? This was a perfect moment. Nothing he could've ever even dreamed about. He kissed her nose and tilted his head. Oh please. You don't know the meaning of dork. He teased, thinking that insult was brilliant. I'm glad you brought me back to life though. I would've never survived in Hell. He chuckled, obviously calling himself sinful.
