What should've been a laughter filled, boisterous, conversational hike was nothing near it. It was lethargic, dull, and so was the way Avery was slinking through the forest. Her ears weren't catching the vocals of Travis, the boy who she'd been trooping around with lately. To be frank, the boy was a complete idiot, dorky and unsensitive - she just liked him for the way he looked, which was uncannily similar to the one she'd forbidden herself to think about or dream about ever since that day at the hospital. A scowl slipped onto her face as her mind flooded with the pictures of that day, seemingly embedded in her mind, hell-bent on torturing her whenever she gave them the open door. "EARTH TO AVERY!" Travis yelled, causing the girl to jump, rolling her eyes as he slipped an arm around her waist. He was laughing, and Avery focused her optics on his face, smiling - just barely - at what she saw there. No, she hadn't really smiled since that day either. Nothing mattered anymore. Her life was completely meaningless, existing just to get up in the morning and breathe.
When Travis took off running, a bit of panic shot through her. He should know by now that she wasn't the greatest outdoors, and could easily kill herself just by tripping on a branch. Leaving her wasn't a good idea. Calling out his name, her voice sounded weak, holding no emotion. Absolutely nothing. She attempted to speed up to catch him, only managing to fall and go flipping head over heels and landing harshly in a twisted mess on the forest floor. Whimpering slightly, she grabbed her knee, grimacing at the blood soaking through the denim of her jeans. Fantastic.

Tanner pulled up into Avery's driveway with a few of her things that she'd left at his dorm. Reluctantly, he stepped out of the car and took a deep breath, walking forwards until he heard a commotion in the forest. First thought was an animal scurrying through the leaves but it was a two step beat meaning a person was in the forest. He almost hopped back into his Mustang and drove off at the thought of it being Avery. He didn't want to deal with another screaming hate fight with her. He walked a little bit closer to the forest, cocking his head. What the hell?
[whoa, that sucked! sorry, i'm just trying to get the thread goin]

She didn't notice the figure looming but yards away from where she was sitting, a pained grimace on her face as she kept her hands pushed down on her knee, a futile attempt to get it to stop bleeding. Where the hell was Travis? Did he even notice - or care - that she'd fallen behind? Avery huffed a disappointed sigh, a whimper following that as she accidentally pressed just a bit harder than she'd meant to on the gash on her knee. How could just tripping over an upturned root give her such an injury as this? Just her luck. If she'd been paying more attention, and not drifting off into la-la-tanner-land, perhaps this wouldn't have happened, but it was Travis' fault too. He was the one who decided to be a smartass and run off.
"I'M GLAD YOU DON'T CARE MY KNEE IS CUT OPEN, TRAVIS," she screamed, knowing that her weak vocals probably wouldn't succeed in reaching his ears anyway. He was probably off in Canada or something by now, the idiot, completely unaware that she was basically disabled back here on the trail. Story of her life.

Tanner was basically mauled by a boy that looked slightly similar to himself running out of the forest towards the other side of it. He stumbled backwards and glared at the boy. Who the fuck are you? Tanner questioned rudely, glaring deep into the pits of the boy's soul. Tanner was close to punching the shit out of this kid who had no buisness running around Avery's place. Tanner looked past the boy, raising a brow.

Her heart was like the fluttering of a hummingbird's wings the second she heard that voice. It pierced her like someone had just stabbed her straight through her heart, and surprisingly, the pain didn't matter anymore. Nothing in the world mattered except for the boy she'd just heard, and she forced herself to her feet, seeing the two figures just a small bit away. Oh, boy, this should be great. Knowing Tanner's temper and Travis's...well, lack of smarts, this couldn't turn out well. Breaking through the bushes and ignoring the pain that shot through her entire body, originating from her knee, her eyes were only for Tanner. Seeing him again was like some out of this world event that she'd never imagined she'd go through, having him so close again - despite the fact that it wasn't the type of close she wanted. He was tense, about ready to strangle Travis if she knew anything about him, and Travis was just the same.
"What do you mean? You're the fucking freak wandering around Avery's house, get the hell out of here," Travis demanded. His eyebrows were furrowed, and he looked pissed off for sure, but his vocals were weak. Intimidated. He could never stand up to Tanner, never be on his level. "Please, you two, stop," Avery demanded, shooting a furious glare in Travis' direction that basically was ordering him to back off.

Tanner's breath was coming out through his clenched teeth. Right now, his heart wasn't in the right place to be excited about seeing Avery. He couldn't believe the second he leaves, she goes and hops on another dude. Even though it'd been a little over a week, it was still surprising to him. Tanner didn't even know if she was still pregnant or not, if she'd gotten an abortion or decided to keep the kid. Right now, that wasn't the point of this whole situation. It was the fact that this little scrawny, short kid was going to try and stand up to the tall and stronger Tanner. Do you seriously want to talk to me like that again fucker? Tanner hissed, glaring at him then glancing at Avery with a pained look. Gotcha a good one here Ave. He said sarcastically, laughing lightly. Anger was building inside Tanner more than it ever had and he was coming close to beating the shit out of this kid.

"He's not anything special, Tanner," she rushed into saying that, scared to death that he thought she was in love with this idiot that she could actually really care less about. That distracted Travis for sure, his eyes wandering over to Avery with a completely amazed expression. "But baby.." he muttered, his eyebrows furrowing in confusion. Everything had been a lie, and now, he was just beginning to realize that. It'd taken him long enough - why hadn't he wondered why there had never been any affection in any hug or kiss she'd ever given him, no longing in her eyes when she looked at him? There was no shame in the girl's eyes, just staring at Travis with a harsh, blank expression. No emotion was lingering in the depths of her grey eyes, but that changed when her eyes flickered over to Tanner, almost desperate when they landed on his frame.
She had no time to say anything else, though. Travis was making some sort of deep growling noise, absolutely infuriated once he'd gathered the gist of the situation. He threw the first punch at Tanner, his anger fueled only by the fact that Avery really didn't care about him. "You mother fucker, stay away from my girlfriend!" he roared, completely blind to where he was swinging. He was just plain mad, unable to let the fact that she really wasn't his girlfriend seep into his miniscule brain.

Tanner rolled his eyes at her statement. So she was basically in desperate need of just 'some guy' to be around her. Yeah, that made everything better. Tanner chuckled in hatred at them both, but more likely towards Travis. Tanner was literally taken aback at Travis's sudden attempt to look strong. Right square in the jaw, but it wasn't that bad take it that the boys fists were small. He swiveled his jaw around in its sockets for a few moments for shaking his head and smiling evily at the same time. Tanner brought back his arm and hit Travis with what seemed a rock right into his face. That's just fine, faggot, you take your time with Avery. I'm moving away from this fucking town anyway. Tanner yelled at the boy. He glared at the kid, the anger still not released full well from his body. Tanner took another swing at the kid, making sure he was on the ground bleeding by now. Anything else you wanna say? Tanner said, crouching down next to Travis, grinning though it wasn't a happy grin.

That was all it took for her to snap. Tanner saying he was moving, Travis bleeding, completely knocked out on the ground - it was too much for her brain to handle. She was under too much stress already. The pregnancy - no, she hadn't gotten an abortion, or even done anything related to that right now, ignoring it the best she could - was taking it's toll on her, and she'd thought about it every night since the hospital and the break up. Her shaking hand was outstretched, but not towards Travis, instead towards Tanner, wanting to grab him and shake him and tell him to come back to her. Of course, that wasn't something she could do, no matter how much she desperately longed to. "Tanner, please don't, please..." she murmured, her eyes filled with tears.
She seriously hoped he didn't misinterpret her words. Avery wasn't pleading with him to leave Travis alone - who was unconscious and not looking as though he'd wake up again any time soon - but she was begging him to stay, not to leave this world behind, and her behind. Her teeth were grinding together, trying to resist the idea that she still loved Tanner. By now, she'd convinced herself that she could go on and live normally without him. She'd already proved herself wrong too, but she was too stubborn to believe that, and just to make it worse for them both, she leaned down over Travis, trying to ignore the close proximity to the boy across from her. It wasn't worth it to let her feelings come out now. He would never be hers again, so why even attempt to get him back? "Travis..." she whispered, though nothing would wake him up right now. He was out cold.

Tanner stood back up, messing with his jaw again. He stepped back from Travis, not feeling a bit of guilt about what he'd just done. His features were emotionless as Avery pleaded him not to leave. He shook his head. I don't know Avery. I just don't know. He said, shaking his head. Yes, Tanner still cared immensely about Avery but for some reason, he just couldn't show it right now. He stared at her, his lips pressed together in a tight line and his eyes showing nothing but a strict glare. So, the second I leave, you grab yourself another guy? Yeah, that really makes me feel great. Like I really mattered. Tanner shook his head and turned his eyes towards the ground, crossing his arms.

Avery's eyes were the one rolling this time, staring at him with a flabbergasted expression. "Haven't you noticed yet that he looks a bit like you? That's the only reason I even put up with his shit," she admitted the truth straight out. After all, it probably wouldn't make much of a difference in what he thought of her, but she was graveling, trying to grasp at any possible thing that she could. "Sometimes, he makes me feel like I'm with you. That's all," her last sentence was basically a whisper, knowing she was probably going too far and appearing as extremely desperate with her shitty excuse for an argument. Tanner probably wanted the truth though, and here, she'd given it to him.
Taking in his figure, she was absolutely drinking his image up, appreciating him being there - flesh and bones, not just a picture in her head - for as long as she possibly could. "Tanner, I mean.." she began, but strange enough, Travis was waking. How the hell had he woken up? He'd just fucking been clobbered and he was attempting to stand. Avery was staring at him in total horror, since he couldn't have worse timing to decide to snap out of unconsciousness. If a rock had been anywhere nearby, she probably would've tossed it at his head to knock him back out, but she was frozen.

Tanner listened to her with his total attention. Even though he wanted to act like he looked uninterested, he just couldn't. He had put in to much love into their relationship to just throw it all away. He stared at her, not saying a word. As Travis was beginning to wake up, Tanner raised a brow, his expression going back to the emotionless state that it was in earlier. He wondered if Travis would remember anything. He pushed his long bangs from his icy blue eyes, glancing at Avery as he did so. This was all to much. Hey buddy, ready for some more? Tanner said sarcastically, smiling and cocking his head.

She wasn't even paying attention anymore, mainly focusing on stopping herself from hyperventilating and not doing anything stupid or too bold for the current situation. Travis was on his feet again - amazingly, he must have a strong head or something - and was giving Tanner such a beaten up glare that it didn't even look mildly threatening. The stream of blood running down his face from his left nostril didn't help either, making him look totally hopeless as he staggered to his feet. "You fucking...son of a bitch...get your ass...away from her," he gasped. Oh yeah, he remembered, and he wasn't liking that too much either. Maybe Avery should hit him on the head with a big honking rock - that'd probably just make everything a lot better.
She didn't move as Travis staggered just a few feet in front of her, apparently trying to 'block' her from Tanner's sight. Yeah right, she wasn't even going to let him do that. "Fuck off, Travis," she mumbled, pushing him aside as she shifted, so she could still see Tanner. This was absolutely ridiculous, did Travis want to get himself killed or something?

Tanner chuckled at Travis' words. My pleasure, touch guy Tanner said, turning on his heel back towards his car. He started walking briskly back to it, not even looking back. Tanner's heart was shredding even more every step he took away from Avery. He wasn't going to show weakness though. But if Travis made one more stupid remark, Tanner would have him knocked out for days. He hated this and every second he fought tears that began to cloud his eyes. He never wanted this...the only thing he had planned for his future was marrying Avery not getting her pregnant and breaking up with her. A sign escaped his lungs as he got closer to his Mustang.

So he was going to walk away? What kind of catastrophic, dramatic ending was that? It wasn't, it was more like Tanner was completely giving up. Avery was just as amazed as Travis was, Travis standing there and grimacing at the blood he felt rolling down his face, Avery staring after him with a look of total regret and shock. The girl couldn't just let him go. That was insane, this was the one chance she had to turn it around, if only a little bit. "So what, you're just giving up?!" she screamed after him, shaking her head in disbelief. This was not like Tanner just to walk away from something, particularly in the middle of such a moment that they had been in. "You're just going to leave and never look back? Is that it, is that the end of it all, Tanner?" she continued. Running after him was too cliche, and it wouldn't do anything to grab him or something anyway.
Yet, would it be so bad to make a run for it, to gallop after him like he was night and day? In her mind, it would be. Tanner and her often thought alike, but she doubted right now that they did. It'd probably only piss him off more if she tried to grab him or do anything with him, and besides, Travis was a problem too. Where the hell was a big rock when you needed it?!

As Tanner heard her pained words, he closed his eyes, letting a few tears roll down his face. Yeah...I guess that's it. He said quietly. Secretly, he wished she'd run after him and grabbed him, trying to talk him out of moving back to Florida. He stared at the ground before his car, slowly opening the door of the Mustang. Avery...All I have to say is..I'm sorry. He said before slipping into his car. This was harder for him than anyone else standing there that day. Just leaving his pregnant girlfriend with some other guy was TOTALLY unlike him. He felt pathetic and weak. But, seriously, what else was there to do?

So what if she got hit by his car. It wouldn't feel any better if he left her here with Travis. Sprinting wasn't exactly a talent of hers, but apparently, she could do it on a flat surface and if the situation called for it. Avery was lunging across the ground, beating the hood of his car as she shifted around the front of the Mustang he was seated in. Maybe she should've gone around the back, just so he might've hit her and she could be relieved of some of the pain she felt right now. "Tanner, don't," she begged, standing outside the window of his driver's seat and banging on it frantically with her fists. The girl looked absolutely insane, her eyes wild and her hair a mess, her jeans stained with the blood of her knee injury that she'd completely forgotten about and ignored. It was all worse because she was sobbing her eyes out, spluttering out small 'please's or 'come back's whenever she took in a gasp of air.
Nobody could deny that face of hers, could they? She figured if they wanted to badly enough, they could. Tanner could reject her, he could back out of her driveway forever and run over her toes in the process and give her the treatment she deserved, but she was hoping to death that he didn't. Avery wouldn't even care if she lived or died if that happened.

Tanner gasped as Avery frantically started to get his attention. Wasn't really hard. He quickly opened his door and stepped out of his car, a questioning, 'are you crazy' look plastered on his face. He pushed his bangs out of her eyes and grabbed her arms. Avery! Calm down! He excalimed, looking at her like she was nuts. He wondered what Travis was thinking right now...or if he was even still there. Tanner pulled Avery closer, wrapping his arms around her body hopefully trying to get her to stop hypervenahlating and calm down. Tanner fought back tears, but not well enough. Some tears leaked out, rolling down his face.

That boy just really couldn't stand giving up. Avery had all but permanently chained herself to Tanner by now, her arms constricted around his waist as she tried to snap out of her hysterics. The girl didn't see it coming when Travis wrapped an arm around her torso, tugging her harshly back against his side. Her knee really hadn't been ready for that jerk either, and she let out a hurt scream as the pain shot through her entire body. Instinctively, her hands went to the injury, trying to create some makeshift cast around it, but it didn't help. All it did was get her fingers all bloody - so what else did she have to do but try to escape from Travis' grip? Absolutely nothing mattered more. "Let me GO Travis," she growled, straining against his arm the best she could without rocking her knee any more than it already had been. Travis just shook his head, his arm still wound around her like a snake as a teasing scowl came to his face. "What're you going to do now, bastard? Get away from my girl," Travis grumbled, placing a kiss on her cheek just to add to the act. She didn't react.
Her knee still hurt, no matter how much she tried to keep it still, and she stopped dead on trying to do anything but put pressure on it. Really, it didn't make it feel any better, but nothing could help her knee right now that was at-hand. Her eyes were glued to Tanner, wondering what he was going to do right now - if he hopped back into that Mustang, deciding she was a lost cause, she didn't care if her damn leg fell off, she'd do whatever she had to in order to make him stay.

Tanner wasn't surprised that Avery had been pulled away from him by Travis. He knew Travis wouldn't give up until Tanner literally killed him. At Travis' words, Tanner just shoved his hands in his pockets and stared at him with a grim smile, one eyebrow raised. You just don't know when to stop do ya? He said, shaking his head. Suddenly, Tanner punched him again. They were both on the ground now, a fury of fists. Mostly Tanner's. He was really getting him good this time. No one was going to mess around with Tanner these days, especially about Avery.
Tanner left Travis on the ground and stood, staring at him once again feeling no guilt towards his actions. Now my friend, are you going to stay the fuck away from me? Tanner said with a cheeky smile, tilting his head. He glanced at Avery. This was the most pathetic fight he'd ever been in in his life.
