Ashlyn snapped a lead on Avo and quickly led him to the round pen. When he threw up his head she jerked the lead and made him stand quietly. Closing in a little on his lead she made him walk quietly to the round pen. (Continued in Training: Round pen.)

Shivering slightly Ashlyn stepped across the deep, sparkling snow. Pulling open the wood door she quickly walked inside and pulled it shut behind her. Since she was the only one currently boarding at Keepsake Stables poor Avo was the only horse in the stable. She would have to buy another horse soon. Quickly she walked to his stall and gave him a carrot, laughing as he bobbed his head up and down. When he brought his head around for another carrot she ignored him. When he nipped her arm a little she brought her elbow into his muzzle, gently but firmly. "No nonsense you..." throwing up his head in fake hurt and suprise he backed away for about 2 seconds until he was at it again. This time, she fed him a small peice of carrot. Walking into the luxury feed room she mixed 1 scoop of hay cubes and 1/2 scoop of his pellet mix. He'd get his hay flake of hay later. She took the royal blue bucket to his stall and gently pushed his shoulder. Moving back obidiently, she stroked his clear bay coat for a second. He lowered his head and rubbed softly against her. When he stopped scratching, she poured the feed mix into his tub and stepped back. Lowering his head into the tub he started chewing. On her way out, she checked his automated water. Clear and cool. Just the right temperature. Ashlyn walked out of the stall. Unfortanantly, the snow was too deep to work on his halter breaking. Maybe she would order some new tack. Then, she walked into the tack room and grabbed a box of brushes. Pulling out a small curry comb, she walked quietly into the stall unbuckled his light sheet. Making small currying motions, he leaned into the brush. After all his extra hair was gone, there wasn't very much as he had gotten clipped, she grabbed a hoof pick and grimaced when she saw how mucky and gross his hooves were. She pulled on her old gloves and took his hoof again making sure she was gently scraping down the hoof. After completing this task 4 times, on each hoof, she stood up, stretched and walked over to the brush box again. Pulling out a soft brush she ran the brush over Avo's soft flank. When she was all done grooming him, she put the light sheet back on and stroked his silky ears for a while. She noticed it was getting colder she kissed the star on his forehead and put the brushes away.

Ashlyn walked in stramping the snow quietly from her boots. Hiver pranced slightly in place shivering, even with a heavy winter blanket on. Sliding back the heavy door she let him step inside. Pulling his heavy blanket off she stood back to admire her new horse's dark sheen. Hearing a small whinny for the stall to her left, she knew that Avo had figured out he had a new companion. Sure, another stallion, but a companion never the less. She would have to get a gelding soon. And maybe a mare. Hmm...lost deep in thought for a few minutes she was brought back to earth by a gentle nudge from Hiver. Laughing she gave him a quick hug before walking to the feed room and mixing out his grain. On her way back to the stalls she grabbed 2 flakes of hay and threw one into Avo's stall.
When Hiver was done eating she drugged him, it wa time to make sure he was up to date on his shots. Deworming. Flue. West Nile. She gave him the full set of shots and floated his teeth. Then, quickly rinsing his mouth she woke him up. He seemed to go throught the whole process fairly easily. Never falling, never struggling. She stroked his neck until he wa fully awake again. Then, she checked in on Avo again before blowing him a kiss and stepping out into the cold.

Ashlyn half-ran half-struggled into the warm barn, welcoming the heat. She was pushing a 3-wheeled muck cart which held a full set of oster brushes, a new lunge line, a new lunge whip, 2 new saddles, 2 new bridles and 2 new leather halters. She carefully let the cart down and went to check on the horses. Avo was quietly waiting there as always. His big brown eyes filling up the darkness of the satll with a warm glow. She rubbed his gleaming neck for a few seconds before moving on to see how Hanzee was. Hanzee seemed angry. She let herelf inside the stall quietly so as not to frighten him and gave him a quick checkover. Nothing seemed to be wrong. She reached out to gently rub his ears and he jerked his head away and moved into the depths of his stall. She decided to let Hanzee work out his own problems for a while and work with Avo. The only thought that troubled her was the fact that maybe, just maybe, she would have to sell Hanzee.
She walked back to the cart and pulled out the brand new set of oster brushes. Grabbing the curry comb she ran it in small circles all over Avo sleek and shining body. When all his loose hair was gone she selected a stiff brush. Working with gentle, but fir strokes she managed to get all his loose hair off. Next, came the softbrush. When she started to brush, Avo relaxed, let his head drop and exhaled strongly. She laughed quietly and continued bruhing him. After his ears, face, legs and body were done she put the soft brush away. She picked up a hoof pick, then reached for one of his hooves. When all 4 feet were picked out the grabbed her new saddle, and his new bridle. She also picked out the lunge line and whip. (Continued in Training.)

Half-way to the arena, Ashlyn stopped. She needed to do something else. Turning Avo carefullyaround she walked quickly back to the stable and put him in his warm, roomy stall. She saw Riley's horses and noted their shiny, sleek bodies. Reaching for a light sheet to keep Avo warm her hand met air and she realized she hadn't bought one yet. "Shoot..." she muttered to herself. She slid the door shut to Avo's stall hoping he'd be warm enough. Then, she kissed his star and ran to the store. After buying a heavy-blanket and a light sheet there she returned to the stable and blanketed Avo. He shivered with pleasure and she stroked him for a few minutes. Her fingers ran up and down his delicate but muscular neck and he swung his head around to her. She smiled and left the stall giving him a flake of hay.

Ashlyn walked calmly into the stable and looked to pat Hanzee and Avo, when she realized she had sold Hanzee earlier that day. She walked to Avo's stall and unclipped all his blankets and threw them off. She grabbed his qualitee leather halter and clipped him to the cross-ties. She grabbed the oster brushes she had brought from Keepsake Stables (her own of course.) and pulled out the high-quality clippers. Through the whole clipping process he only moved when the clipper moved up to his ear and even then, he only twitched a few times. When he was all shaved she pulled on his cooling sheet. Then, she took a broom and swept and threw away all him hair. After admiring his gleaming coat for the 3rd time she, slipped on his bridle, pulling it up over his ears and adjusting it.
Hooking the lunge line to the bridle, Ashlyn led Avo to the indoor arena and started him in a circle. He obidiently moved away from her and started trotting. His tail swept out behind him, his neck bowed and his body gleaming. She smiled to herself, Avo would make a champion someday. Walking back to the stable, she grabbed the saddle and pad. Sliding the pan on to his back she gently slipped the saddle on. Tightening the girth he laced back his ears but didn't try to bite. Stroking him soothingly, she led him back to the arena. Ashlyn hopped from the ground onto Avo's prancing body and let him walk around the arena.
After the lesson was over she walked him out for a few minutes before sliding to the ground and loosening his girth a little. Walking back to his stall, she hooked him to the cross-ties again and brushed him. First the curry comb, nothing there. Next the body brush, she made sure to get all the loose hair and caked dirt off. Last, she cleaned Avo's feet with a hoof-pick and threw a heavy stable sheet on him. She looked out the window, and saw it was getting dark. After giving Avo another flake of hay and his daily grain she kissed him softly and he blew in her face. She giggled and softly shut the stall door behind her.

The crisp air hit her and she laughed softly. Pulling open the barn door she stepped inside and relaxed in the warmth and good sounds of the stable. Going to Avo's stall she peeked her head in. He looked alright. She smiled when swung his head around to greet her. Still smiling slightly she walked to the tack room and grabbed her Oster brushes and a flake of orchard grass hay. Letting herself inside the stall she threw the grass hay onto the ground and opened the brush set. Selecting a curry comb, she ran it down Avo's smooth neck and up his round, muscalar hindquarters. He shivered with pleasure and leaned into the brush. When she had finished with the body brush as well, making sure to get all the loose dirt and straw off of him, she picked out a hoof pick and ran all the loose and packed dirt and manure.
When she finished with the grooming, she took him out into the brightly lit isle and hooked him to the cross-ties. His bay haunches gleamed in the light and he danced lightly from one foot to another. Throwing a light sheet over him she buckled the 1 strap underneath and went to grab her wheelbarrow and pitch fork. In no time she had sifted out all the sand and straw and put a new thick bedding of straw in. She stepped back to admire her work. Sparkling and clean. Walking back to the tackroom she left the wheelbarrow and cart outside Avo's stall. Then, she walked over to the wall, where his saddle and bridle were hanging. Carrying them out to him, gently placed the black pad on first. Next came the saddle, padded for perfection and the bridle, fit to a T. Leading him to the Cross-country course she thought she would just work him lightly today.

After a great workout, Avo had worked up a little sweat. It was still to cold to give him a cool rinse so she took a clean, warm towel and rubbed him down until he was soft and cool to the touch. Then, she ran a boby brush over him, making sure any loose hairs were swept off. Last, came the hoof pick. There were a few small stones and a lot of dirt, but nothing big. After oiling and cleaning all her tack she put it away with her brushes and gave Avo his grain.

Later that day Ashlyn moved in Gras. He was a high-strung andulusion stallion and she was looking forward to be training with him. It presented her with a challenge. She slid the door back to the stall across from Avo's and let Gras inside. She gave him grain, the same amount Avo got and 1 flake of orchard grass hay as well. She threw off his blankets and gasped at the gleaming coat. Well, he was in good shape. Quickly, she replaced it with a light stable sheet and made sure his hooves and body were fine after the trailer ride. No harm there. She also needed to make sure he was up to date on his shots and feet. She would deal with the shots tommorow. She stroked his handsome nose and rubbed his forehead, smiling when he lowered it. Avo whinnied welcoming him and for Ashlyn everything seemed to be falling into place.

The crisp cool air struck her and she smiled. Winter was ending. That meant she needed to start entering some more shows and training just a bit harder. Ashlyn pulled open the heavy barn door and gasped. Avo was standing in the isle, muching from a bale of hay. She hurried over to him, making sure she was quiet as well. Stroking his smooth as silk shoulder she walked over to the stall. No damage. His latch has simply been unhooked. Not broken. His halter was still hanging, gleaming, from the halter hook on his stall and his blanket rack was okay as well. So, the question was, how did Avo get out? She shook the question to thr back of her head, resolving to answer it later. Snatching the leather halter she unhooked it and slid it over Avo's ears. The big stallion shook his head and made hay fly everywehere. Lovingly, rubbing his ears and leading him to the cross-ties.
At the cross-ties, Avo seemed more awake and alert. He shook his head once more, as if to shake off anylast peices of hay and stood taller and prouder. Grinning like a proud parent, Ashlyn hurried to the tack room where she retrieved her grooming supplies. Selecting a curry comb, she ran it across his barrel and around his hindquarters. He leadned into the brush with obvious pleasure. She saw that a small flurry of loose hairs and grabbed a body brush to make sure he was smooth and free of any loose hairs. When once more his coat was gleaming bay she took a hoof pick and made sure his hooves were free of dirt and manure. She put the brushes away and brought out her saddle. It was very well cleaned and she thought is extrmemely comfortable. Hooking her arm through the bridle with a flash on the way out, Ashlyn made her way torwards the excited stallion.

Ashlyn pulled into the Amarillo Paloma Equestrain Centre and parked. Justin sat in the truck for a few moments before unbuckling his seat belt and opening the passenger door. The heat in the truck had been going so when he opened the door, a blast of cold air hit him and he shivered, but after a few moments began to adapt back to the cold air. He did not shut the door yet, but glanced back towards Ashlyn. [So what's the plan?]

Ashlyn who had come over to Justin's side after getting out of the truck, laughed softly. "Well, you can ride Gras, and I'll ride Avo." grabbing Justin's arm she, pulled him into the stables. Switching on the light, she saw quite a few more horses. Leading Justin over to Gras's stall she introduced them "Justin, Gras. Gras, Justin." she laughed, unbolted the door and left them there. Quickly brushing and tacking up Avo, she led him out, immaculate and ready.

Justin chuckled as Ashlyn pulled him over to Gras' stall and introduced them. He patted the stallion and then found his brushes and quickly brushed him off. He then managed to find Gras' saddle and bridle. He tacked up Gras quickly and then led the stallion of his stall, just a minute or two after Ashlyn had Avo ready. He stopped Gras beside Avo and glanced to Ashlyn, a smile on his face. [So where are we going?]
