Her chuckle was faint, feeling a bit shaken, but forcing herself to act like she wasn't. Her jaw tensed as he placed a hand on her arm, contorting into a forced smile. She sighed in relief as he let go, swinging back up into the saddle. Of course Sota had to object, tossing his head and backing up rapidly, but she whispered a few words to him - leaning down over his neck and whispering them in his ear - and he calmed. Avery could hear the river up ahead, and she was actually relieved. She was dizzy, knowing she must've hit her head on something during her fall, but she didn't bring it up, the same fake smile on her face as she nodded. "How about just a trot this time," she suggested, not really a question waiting for his approval, but a demand.
Sota was already moving now, his ears perked to catch the flow of the water up ahead of them. Avery allowed him to extend his stride to a collected canter, not wanting to anger the stallion any more than he already was.

Yeah thats ok. Corey smiled, swinging onto Azrael's back easily. Nudging the gelding into a trot, Corey sided with Avery and Sota. Deciding now the supposed awkward moment had passed, he tried a conversation. So...umm...hows life? I mean...in love and war etc. God i sound like a dork. Yeah, hows love, life and war? Corey asked, blushing as he faltered and doubted his words.
Corey sat loosely in the saddle in a relaxed sitting trot, moving easily with Azrael's smooth pace. Corey tried his hardest not to look at Avery to much and it worked, he focused solely on his horse and would only be distracted if need be.

She smiled, embarassed herself a bit at his question, but her grin was gone in a second on the subject of love. Avery didn't want to particularly tell him about what had happened recently, just a few days before he'd arrived, so she did her best to dodge the gist of it. "Uh. Love...strange?" she grimaced, her cheeks flooding scarlet as she looked down at Sota's perked ears, sighing. "I'm pregnant, and Tanner and I aren't real happy about it, but anyway, what about you?" she gulped, shutting her eyes for a moment. The girl didn't really need to be so apprehensive. It wasn't any of his business anyway, she'd just told him to be generous, as he had told her about why he'd been gone for so long. She was avoiding looking at him, sighing in relief as the river ahead was now in sight.
She was completely on her own now, not really bothering to see his reaction or react to it. Sliding off of Sota, she let his reins drop, trusting him to stay in the area. Sure enough, he just began to graze, and Avery leaned against a nearby tree, feeling a bit dizzy after her confession. That was a bit personal for her liking, but what else was she going to say?

Dammit dammit dammit DAMMIT. Why had he asked her that? He obviously knew the answer...like shed be single. But Preganant? I see. Myself? Kind of...distanced myself...had my eye on someone...but well...theyve moved on. Corey admitted, his feet slipping out of the stirrups before he swung off and tethered Azrael to a tree nearby. Lowering his frame onto the geo, Corey lay down, his arms holding his head comfortably. The clear blue sky was like a horizontal ocean, endless and amazing.
Mind if i ask why your both not happy? Corey added into the silence that he felt had grown. A signular fluffy white cloud drifted past them, blotching their view of a singular patch of the blue abyss.

Her eyes lowered to the ground, not wanting to see his disappointment. It'd only make the mood of the situation worse, and she sighed, rubbing the back of her neck with a grimace. "Uh, well, we got in a fight about it. It wasn't planned, or wanted. We sort of...split up," Avery explained, her lyrics unsure of herself. No, she wasn't going to say Tanner had basically raped her unless Corey decided to beat it out of her. It was obvious she was leaving something out, and that was something she wasn't going to dive into any time soon either. "But it doesn't matter, Corey," she sighed, kicking a stone with the toe of her shoe and sending it flying into the water, shooting out ripples in the otherwise calm river.
She still wasn't watching him, not bothering to gauge his reaction or give it much notice. He didn't need to be so nosy, and he definitely didn't need to be involved with her personal life.

Corey nodded. A sigh left his throat as he thought of the pain shes probably enduring. Well im here if you want to talk at all. I wont bug you for information. Corey replied to her, propping his frame up on his elbows and forearms. Corey then stood up and walked over to the river and sat down by the side of the waters and let his hand fall into it. An index finger dragged over his scar. The anger was rising. Or was it desperation? Who knew.
Something just snapped. He didnt know what it was or why it happened. Standing up slowly he picked up the nearest large rock he could and smashed it into small jagged pieces. And then he sat down, or fell onto his knees. Picking up the largest one, he dragged it over the thin skin of his scars. I...cant...take...this...anymore. he mumbled under his breath, not caring if Avery saw or not. Small beads of crimson appeared on his forearm, followed by small rivulets. A tear fell singly off his cheek, followed by more. yet they fell with no noise, no sobbing for accompniant(sp?) but silent.

Had she really set this kind of behavior off? All she'd told him was the truth - that's what he wanted, hadn't it been? She rushed forward, kneeling beside him with a look of complete shock on her face. The girl grabbed his hand harshly, ripping the rock out of his grip with a few harsh whispers spoken in his ear, just small words like 'stop' or 'please'. Once he was completely 'unarmed', she wrapped her arms around his shoulders again, making a small shh noise with her lips as a mother would do to calm a child down. Gently, she grabbed his face between her hands, turning him to face her. "Please stop, Corey, please, what's wrong?" she whispered, her own eyes filling with moisture.
This was the last thing she needed. More stress, more drama, more problems, but she couldn't just abandon him when he seemingly needed her most. "It's alright Corey, everything is fine," Avery crooned, her voice nothing more than a soft purr.

Im wrong! I fall in love with people who would never love me. My mother comitted suicide because of me. My own horse is scared shitless because of me...im a fucking failiure...i should be shot. Corey whispered desperatley, knowing none of it was his fault but finding it easier to deal with if he blamed himself. He felt the warmth of her body holding his tightly and settled a bit, her words in his ear everything that should calm him but just made him more solitary.
His head fell into his own hands, knowing this wasnt fair on her. His arms wrapped around his knees, he felt small again. He couldnt get angry, there were things that could get hurt here. Ave, im sorry. he sniffed, mentally beating himself for sounding so childlike.

Okay. She hadn't been expecting that. Her face fell, looking as if she'd been hit with the news that her own mother had died, though it wouldn't have the same effect on her. She had a stingy relationship with her parents, barely communicating with them and being quite the hostile girl when she did. Scooting away as to not smother him or take up too much of his space, she kept her arm around his shoulders, giving him a light smile that held absolutely no happiness. She looked dreary, extremely saddened by how quickly the mood had shifted. "Well, if it helps at all, I love you. Maybe not the way you'd prefer," here, she paused, her eyes shifting to him and trying to hold back her panic at how that might set him off again, "but I do love you. And you're one of the best people I've ever met, so I don't know who you're listening to, but I seriously think you should stop," she nodded, figuring that was good enough.
A grimace followed her vocals, replaying them in her head. She almost sounded like she was joking with him or something, acting like what he'd mentioned wasn't important. How sweet, Avery, she thought to herself, cussing herself out inwardly. She could do absolutely nothing right, could she?

Corey gave a small smile to Avery. Rubbing the other arm to remove the blood, Corey stood up. A shaky sigh left his lips as he held his hand out for Avery. Thats fine for me right now. Dont think im stable enough for anything serious with anyone. For now, il just concentrate with Azrael. Corey forced out a laugh which sounded false and hollow to him. Why had that just happened? Actually, what had just happened? Corey looked over the area and smirked at himself, shaking his head. He rested a hand on a tree, the timber taking most of his weight as he slumped against it. God he was dying for a drink.

She wasn't afraid to take his hand anymore, sliding hers into his gently and following him over to the tree. Once he sat down, she was basically drug along with him, a small 'oof' slipping out of her lips as she plopped onto the ground. Avery eyed his face for a moment before she whistled. Sota was thankfully very well trained - he just didn't act like it sometimes - and he came trotting over to her with his ears perked, attentive to her every word. Patting his nose, she grabbed the canteen hanging on the side of the saddle, giving the stallion half a carrot as she did so. "Here, Corey," she nodded, placing the canteen at his side with a short sigh.
"You know, Corey, maybe it's better...this way. I mean, you and Azrael just working together..." she murmured, wincing at how strange her words sounded. "I mean, for everyone, it might be better," she spluttered, shaking her head. That didn't help either. She just couldn't get her point across without sounding like a horrible person, so she stopped, eyeing him carefully.

Corey felt her hand in his and almost smiled but didnt. The sweet scent of food came from the small canteen and he was just opening the container when she spoke. What the fuck do you mean? Its better if i cut myself off completely and stay with my horse? Its so much better if i dont speak to anyone because im fucked in the head right? Safer if im cut off and locked away? You know what, Avery, Fuck you. Fuck you and your i love you corey but not in that way. bullshit. Forget our 'friendship. If i have to dedicate myself to Azrael, i cant have friendships. Bye. Corey spat, his words somewhere between a growl and a hollow whisper. The boy stood up furiously and stalked over to his horse, untying the reins. Mounting swiftly, Corey asked for a speedy gallop and he got it. Without a glance backwards he rode on until he came to the log. Azrael jumped it again then skidded to a halt. Corey sighed heavily. Walk on. he asked the horse, his words flat and shaky.
He hadnt exploded on anyone like that before. Not since hed been in the sanitarium. The memories came back...
"Corey...you need your pills. You dont want to end up like jimmy now?" Dr Elffman's voice echoed in his ears. Corey locked his eyes on the doctor from his bed. Fuck off. The only reason Jimmys the way he is, is because you cut half of his brain out you motherfucker. I hope you die, you worthless piece of shit. Im not taking your scum. Corey snarled at him, his voice classed as murderous in their density. Doctor Elffman laughed hollowly, there was a prick in his arm, then nothing at all.
Corey shook his head as Azrael whinnied in boredom. Corey stroked his neck then walked the horse on towards home, taking his time. The anger was still with him. What a bitch. She couldve worded it so much better...but no.

Avery didn't know what to do. She just sat there, ignoring Sota as he nudged her arm with curiosity. Her face had gone blank, her eyes displaying her hurt as she forced herself to stand up, pacing back and forth along the stream edge for a good three minutes. Fine, let him go, if he wanted to find problems in everything she did - no, that wasn't the way to think. She ruffled her hair, trying to think of the perfect apology, though she hadn't seen anything really wrong with what she'd said. Corey had taken it in the complete opposite form of how she'd intended it to be taken, and considering his shitty mood, he wasn't going to accept her apology any time soon.
Sota was getting bored again, following her around aimlessly and nudging her harshly in the back. Avery muttered something to herself as she swung up onto the horse's back, urging him on to go at a canter, which he easily obliged to. Bracing herself as they approached the log, she actually made it over this time, asking more speed of Sota in a desperate search for Corey. "COREY?!" Avery screamed, not expecting a response.

Azrael released a high pitched squeal as he caught Sota's scent on the wind. Corey heard Avery's scream on the wind, but Corey kept his gelding walking onwards, ignorant to her cries. God women. Corey had actually past the point of caring. Trot Az. Corey asked. nudging his sides gently. Corey didnt need her chasing after him now, not after everything that was just said between them. Have to train Azrael...cant be with anyone. Corey thought viciously, smirking himself at the idea.

Avery scowled as she heard the sound of hoofbeats ahead growing fainter. He was still moving away from her, ignoring her voice, uncaring about how she felt about this. Sota was moving full speed now, and let out a surprised whinny as they pulled up beside Corey and Azrael. Avery's eyes were on fire, absolutely infuriated with him. "Corey, slow your fucking horse down. I didn't mean anything from that, but if you want to run off and pout a bit like a little kid, don't let me stop you," she growled, spitting the words at him like she was absolutely disgusted with him. Actually, right now, she was - what he'd done had been completely uncalled for.
Besides, this whole thing was ridiculous. All of it. She was like a curse on every single person she met. First Tanner - rejecting him and ruining basically both of their lives - and now Corey, hurting him more than she'd ever want to. That made her willpower fade instantly, slowing Sota down until he stopped, just staring at his ears.

Corey turned Azrael sharply towards her, standing infront of Sota. Corey glared at Avery, the way she looked down at her horse in a childlike mannor. She seemed to undermine herself at every oppurtunity or if ever something backfired. Corey said nothing to her, he just kept on watching her. Sighing quietly Corey dismounted Azrael, leaving the horse standing quietly, touching noses with Sota.
Corey walked over to Sota's side and looked up at Avery. And then he did something she probably wouldnt expect and would probably take it the wrong way. Wrapping his strong arms around her hips, he pulled her carefully off of the saddle onto the ground. He looked down at her, his blue eyes searching hers. Without awaiting a reply or a reaction, Corey hugged her tightly. Im sorry, im finding it hard to adjust to life again and i took that the wrong way. he whispered into her hair. I do value our friendship, and im happy if thats the way we stay. But i am always here for you. Corey added, hoping hed healed the wound hed caused.

Despite the fact that she could barely breathe, squashed against his chest like that, it was nice. Comforting. Of course she still felt pity for him and was still a bit surprised at how he'd reacted, but this took some of her concentration off of that and instead to the present, where he was hugging her and she was standing there allowing him to. Gently, she pushed herself out of his arms - careful not to be rude, including a smile - she rubbed the back of her neck, peering up at him with a questioning expression in her eyes. She thought her mood swings were bad - yeah right, his made her look like a constant angel on earth. "You're not mad at me anymore?" she muttered, grimacing as Sota flicked her with his tail. Avery shifted to the side to avoid him, but she still kept her eyes on Corey, curious.
So maybe everything would be okay and she could make something go right. That was exactly what she needed. She was lacking confidence, lacking self esteem, lacking everything that made her herself lately, and if she could at least set things right and as they should be with Corey, something would have gone right. She'd feel so much better.

Corey looked at her as she stood back and shook his head. I overreacted and you have enough shit going on right now without my input. Corey stated simply, looking at his feet with shame. Az rested his nose on Coreys shoulder and began nibbling at his shirt. Corey laughed slightly, a hand reaching up to pat his smooth nose. Corey sighed then offered a smile to Avery, hoping that she might return it.

Hadn't he already noticed that she was smiling, even before he'd given her the sheepish grin he was now? Avery had heard what she'd wanted to hear, and there was no reason not to be happy then. "Thank you," she replied, simply nodding to show her appreciation for what he'd said. She was about to turn around and grab Sota again when she stopped, biting her lip for a moment before she wrapped Corey in a hug again, though she pulled back quickly. Just a sign of her thanks. Sota whinnied, impatient, and Avery scowled as the sound hit her ears, startled. "Oh, calm down, you asshole," she grumbled, grabbing her stallion's reins as she rolled her eyes.
"That ride didn't go quite as I thought it would," she smirked, glancing at Corey again. But then again, she was glad it had gone as it did. They got to vent to eachother - even if they hadn't originally wanted to - and she felt closer to him, too. She knew what was going on with him and she knew how to handle it. It'd made things better.

Corey watched just as she was about to mount and nodded slightly at her last statement. He played with a ring on his finger before looking up at her. Ave..i...uhh he stammered his hands trying to help out the words with stupid gestures. Eventually he sighed and put a hand on her shoulder. Turning her swiftly, he kissed her softly on the lips, just an elongated peck. No tongues or anything. Az stamped his hoof boredly, but Corey didnt want to stop.
